-Member Recruitment Award--for a Professional Member who excels at recruiting Corporate Members
This year's Employee Owner of the Year Award goes to our very own, Scott Debusk!
Five years ago, in 2013, Thomson-Shore gained an extremely valuable member to its family. Scott Debusk came on board as a member of our Building Maintenance Team - benefiting the full span of departments and employees. It is common to find Scott anywhere and everywhere around Thomson-Shore. He tackles many projects single handedly and is always pleasant when interacting with his co-workers. One Thomson-Shore employee remembered a time calling the maintenance office and he very kindly answered,
“Hello, this is Scott how can I make your day better?”
Scott was very surprised to be nominated as employee of the year, but he was the only one that felt that way. Anyone that has worked with him, or near him, speaks highly of his work ethic and optimistic attitude. We spoke with a few members from his department and they all raved about him. His willingness to do whatever it takes, his consistent positivity, and his upbeat attitude were all mentioned repetitively by several other employee owners.
Scott helps the Committee with many projects and preparations for events and tools for communication – such as hanging the ESOP boards throughout the plant, building game pieces for the company picnic, setup and teardown of events, or whatever else is needed. He whole heartedly supports ESOP concepts and sees great value in employee ownership.
The fact that he was surprised to be nominated shows how naturally in-tune he is with the ESOP culture. He sees his helpful actions and congenial behaviors as part of ‘just doing the job,’ not anything extraordinary. He enjoys what he does and the people that he works with at Thomson-Shore. Even when presented with tough tasks he frequently goes above and beyond.
We asked Scott if he had any advice or quotes to live by/pass on to others. He replied with, "Let’s see... don't worry about what everyone else is doing or complaining about, just handle your business. And just because a job may be unpleasant doesn't mean you shouldn't try to do your best."
One thing particularly special about this nomination is that every single person that heard Scott was nominated as Thomson-Shores 2018 Employee Owner of the Year was thrilled about it. As much as he likes to fly under the radar, everyone here thinks the world of him.
As this year's winner of the Employee Owner of the Year award, Scott will be entered as the Michigan Chapter’s candidate for the 2018 National Awards which will be announced on May 23, 2018 at the 27th Annual Awards Banquet in Washington, D.C.
Scott will also receive Free registration to the ESOP Association’s 41st Annual ESOP Conference, being held on May 24 & 25, 2018.
This is Thomson-Shore's second year in a row to nominate the winning Employee Owner of the Year!
